Enterprise Zone

The Enterprise Zone is a State of Illinois incentive program established to encourage development within the designated zone boundaries. The program depends upon a creative partnership between the state and local governments to encourage job creation. The Mount Vernon /Jefferson County Enterprise Zone was established in 1984. The Mt. Vernon /Jefferson County Enterprise Zone boundary includes over 11 square miles of property.

Projects qualifying for Enterprise Zone benefits could received local benefits including property tax abatement, building permit fee waiver and sales tax waiver on building materials.
