Business Announcements:

 

Don Sol, a Mexican restraurant with a uniue menu has opened, located at 300 South 44th Street.

Tommy T's, located at 118 N. Ninth Street is a locally owned Pizza (homemade dough and special "secret" ingredients) and sandwich restaurant.

G.J. Grewe, Inc., has broken ground on a 10,000 SF retail strip mall on State Route 15 attracting Verizon Wireless, Jimmy John's and Gamestop.

Intermountain Electronics has announced they will build a $5.5 million facility and create 25 jobs in the Rolland Lewis Industrial Centre to be completed by January 2010.

SpeeDee Delivery has opened in a new 10,000 SF facility and has hired 10 drivers.

St. Mary's Good Samaritan is moving forward with plans for a new $220 million state-of-the-art facility at the new I-57 exit and will add 90 new jobs.

Lavender Ridge Memory Care build a new facility and opened in June 2009 with 28 units and 20 new jobs.

Mt. Vernon Eye and Surgery Center - a $2.3 million project located at 2900 Broadway in Mt. Vernon. The facility will containe the business office, a surgery center and a large parking lot at the location.

NEW National Guard/Reserves Joint Facility, $24 million project, broke ground in 2008 with completion expected Fall 2009.

Downtown Mt. Vernon Development Corporation has completed their $500,000 Streetscape project.

Tavern on 10th and Cactus Jack's Burrito Shack are new restaurants in the Downtown District.

Eric Evans Aviation, Ltd., a growing aviation sales company offering two very promising aircraft dealerships opened for business, February 26th, 2008 in the Koziara Terminal at the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport. The new business sells and/or brokers all types of aircraft ranging from piston engine singles to twin engine business jets including the Expedition E350 and E350XC Light Sport Aircraft, as well as Jabiru aircraft line.

Current Projects

In Progress:

Good Samaritan Regional Health Center held a ground breaking cereony Aapril 28th, 2010 for their new medical campus which will have five floors and a garden level and feature 134 beds in private rooms and eight obersvation beds with a "family zone" in each room that allows family members to stay overnight. In addition, there will be a 141,000 square foot medical office building connected to the hospital which includes a surgery center and outpatient diagnostic services.

Approximatley 300 construction jobs and more than 200 new jobs within the hospital will be generated, along with a $240 million dollar investment into the Mt. Vernon community.

The hospital is expected to cost $185 million; the medical office building $43 million; and the surgery center $9 million.

Crossroads Hospital Expansion, $3.4 million surgery department expansion.
“Crossroads surgery expansion is a much anticipated event that brings much needed space and new amenities for our patients, Chief Nursing Officer Beth Horton stated. “The additional space in our surgical services department will allow us to better serve our community and better support the physicians who practice here. The additional surgical suites will enable us to better accommodate current and new surgeons, as well as schedule more surgeries simultaneously, which means more timely service for our patients

The addition will be 2,000 square feet and include two new surgical suites, two non-sterile equipment rooms, a sterile supply room, a sterile central area, a decontamination room, four additional recovery bays and two outpatient same-day surgery rooms. A renovation of the existing nourishment stations and preadmission reception area will also be part of the project.

Power Holdings

Power Holdings, a $2 billion project, is moving forward with a synthetic natural gas gasification plant in Jefferson County. The construction is expected to create 1200 construction jobs over three years and 600 full time jobs in mining and administration when the construction is completed.


Continental Tire N.A. Expansion
-July 2008
Coninental Tire North American has announced an additional $60 millions to be spent in the local facility, bringing the total amount of investments during the last three years in Mt. Vernon up to $220 million.

The facility located in Mt. Vernon produced 90 percent of the truck tire production for the US and supports the Canada market.

Recently Completed:

Lavendar Ridge - An assisted-living community specializing in the care for individuals with memory impairments is slated to open by the end of the year.  Lavender Ridge, located at 1400 South 34th St., is a 28 unit assisted living facility for memory care projected to open in December.

The facility will be able to provide residents with 24 hour supervision by staff; health monitoring and assessments with personal plans of care; a nurse on staff; medication management; secure outdoor patio and garden area; bathing assistance; dressing assistance; scheduled transportation; and a beauty/barber shop.

Grand Opening - Cedarhurst Center for the Arts Expansion
Groundbreaking on the project was in 2006, and the Cedarhurst Connects campaign raised more than its $6 million goal to pay for the renovations. The opening unveiled the new gallery for exhibits; the Barbara Beck Family Education Center, the permanent collection gallery, the corridor gallery and the performance hall as well as the new M.S. Shrode Art Center located in the former administration building.

Mt. Vernon Senior Housing
- Heritage Landing
Construction has been completed on a 50 unit affordable senior housing on South 42nd Street in Mount Vernon. Community Features include a fitness center, computer area, party room with large screen, contemporary social room with kitchen, Landry facilities on every floor, phone controlled entry access system, picnic area, ample off street parking, patio with outdoor seating, trash chutes on every floor and handicapped accessible (select units).

Kroger Fuel Center
Located at 4225 Broadway St. opened January 31, 2008.Offering fuel, ice and snacks to the public.


Quiznos
We are happy to welcome Quiznos to Jefferson County as a neighbor to Sherman Williams at 4805 Broadway.


Pilot Auto/Truck Plaza

Construction has begun on the new struck stop on State Route 15 and is expected to be completed by January 1, 2008.


Center for Comprehensive Cancer Care

Built by St. Mary’s Good Samaritan and Dr. Oza, this $4 million facility is state of the art and is the regional center for treatment and patient support.

Heritage Woods of Mt. Vernon

Mount Vernon Mold Work

Mount Vernon Mold Works recently completed a 40,000 SF expansion. Mt. Vernon Mold maintains and restores tire molds.

Boroviaks IGA Gas Station

Boroviaks, as regional grocer, has completed construction of an IGA gas station next to its facility on South 10th Street in Mount Vernon. This project is indicative of the redevelopment and regeneration of the downtown area of Mt. Vernon.

Byrd Watson Drug Store

Byrd Watson Drug Store, family owned and operated in the downtown area for several years has built a new facility at 12th and Main. Their initial location in downtown on 9th Street is being renovated and expanded for this gift and home decor store called “Dish on the Square”.

The Rex

The Rex, a meeting/conference/reception facility has been completed. The Rex, at 824 Main Street, was purchased by Jay and Chanda Koch has been completely renovated.


Sherwin Williams

Sherwin Williams has completed their move to their new location at 4805 Broadway. Their new building is 10,000 Sq Ft.

Westmont Apartments

Westmont has adding 10 units to their facility. The addition has eight two bedroom and two three bedroom apartments.
