Good Samaritan Regional Health Center reaches milestones

24-May-2011

MT. VERNON — Good Samaritan Regional Health Center celebrated two milestones on Monday with a topping off ceremony for its new hospital, and groundbreaking for its new medical office surgical center. “Any day you can top out and break ground on the same day, you are really doing something,” Andy Poirot, project manager with McCarthy Builders said. Phil Gustafson, CEO of St. Mary’s Good Samaritan, said the milestones “show our vision is closer to reality as we raise the bar for healthcare in Southern Illinois.” Mayor Mary Jane Chesley and Good Samaritan Regional Health Center President Mike Warren hooked the beam to cables to be raised. Warren explained the centuries old last beam raising ceremony with its symbols — a tree to pay homage to the earth God gave us; a flag in appreciation and remembrance of those who ensured our liberties, and signatures of the community to show those who have left a mark on history and wished the project well.
